<br />Deparnnent's Geological Survey (GS) publishes
<br />many topographic maps and g8o]ogic maps and
<br />reports. The central source of information about
<br />these maps and related materials is the Earth
<br />Science Information Center, Geological Survey,
<br />National Center, Reston, Virginia 22092. Maps
<br />and reports are available for purchase from the
<br />Branch of Distribution, Box 25286, Geological
<br />Survey, Federal Center, Denver, Colorado 80225.
<br />In addition, GS publications can be obtained
<br />over-the-counter at the Earth Science Information
<br />Centers in Alaska (2), California (3), Colorado
<br />(1), Utah (1), Virginia (1), Washington (1), and
<br />Washington, DC (1).
<br />Li.S. Bureau of Mines: The Department of the
<br />Interior's Bureau of Mines publishes many
<br />reports about specific mineral wmmodities
<br />(including annual mineral commodity statistics
<br />by commodity and by State), mining and milling
<br />techniques, mine safety, and environmental
<br />researoh. The central source of this information
<br />is the Bureau of Mines, Office of Public
<br />Infotmation, Washington, D.C. 20241.

<br />In addition, the Geological Survey and the
<br />Bureau of Mines maintain a cooperative Minerals
<br />Information Office (MIO), located in the Depart-
<br />ment ofthe Interior Building, Room 2647-MIB,
<br />1849 C Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20240,
<br />phone (202) 208-5512 or 208-5520, respectively.
<br />Additional MIO offices are in Tucson, AZ; Reno,
<br />NV; and Spokane, WA. These offices are staffed
<br />by technical information specialists from both
<br />agencies, who dispense information about
<br />mineral deposits, mining, and prospecting.
