After review of the water-quality data and our water management practices, the
Office of Mined Land Reclamation approved such use. Pond SA remains a source of water but
has been drawn down appreciably, especially now that file spring feeding it appears to have
ceased flowing. Further, that pond is, now that construction is not occurring and [he mine is
operating, distant from the major areas of use, i.e., the mine haul roads. The need for dust
suppression water is temporarily aggravated by the fact that construction of the main water
supply line from the City of Victor could not be started until just this week because of the
lengthy cultural resources reviews.
Thus we have evaluated the temporary use of other sources of water for mine road watering and
have identified, through +vater-quality testing, the water from Pond 4C, which is presently
relatively full, as an ideal temporary source. Not only would it be a temporary source nearer
the areas of need, but it would help reduce the volume of water in the Victor pad system in
preparation for detoxification (allowing the addition of fresh water).
We propose to apply a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to Pond 4C to ensure low to
negligible levels of cyanide. \Ve Have test tiara from Degtlssa regarding the application rate and
[he results and we have performed the same hydrogen peroxide application here on site and have
followed with cyanide and metals measurements of the treated water. DeGussa's objective was
to drop the cyanide to less than 0.2 111g/I ~VAD cyanide. The addition rate is 0.3 grams per
liter. DeGussa Data achieved c0.2 mg/I for their tests. We would treat the water in Pond 4C
and let the hydrogen peroxide react for at least 16 hours prior to withdrawal of treated water.
