• Source of Topsoil.
(e) A discussion of present and potential productivity of
soils.
~i:fi~~l~'f:f3
Since the soils at Energy Mine No. 3 and at the Middle Creek
Dnderground Mine are not in a premining undisturbed status,
determining "present" productivity under premining conditions is not
possible. "Potential" productivity can be estimated by using SCS
guidelines which correlate soil types (from SCS mapping done prior
to mining) with parameters including suitability potentials,
• capabilities, and forage production. This information is detailed
under Rule 2.04.3 and in Table 38, Land Qae Capabilities Within the
Energy Miae No. 3 Permit Area, Table 39, Soil and Foundation
Suitability Potentials and Limitations for Alternative Land Qaes,
and Table 41, Forage Production, Percent Vegetative Cover and
Carrying Capacity by SCS Range Site.
(2) The intensity of soil sampling and the number of samples to
analyze shall be based on the complexity and variability of soils within
the permit area.
RESPONSE:
•
No additional soil sampling will be conducted at Mine No. 3
2.04-68
