An old highwall left intact from the surface mine served as the <br />portal area for the Middle Creek Mine. The roam and pillar <br />• underground mining method was used to eztract coal from the Wadge <br />seam at the Middle Creek Mine between May 1979 and .lone 1980. <br />Approzinately 2.49 million tons of coal was recovered from 1975 <br />through 1980. Yearly production records for both mining operations <br />are presented in Table 21, Historical Production Rates. Both mines <br />have remained inactive aince~the 1980 closure. <br />Preaine land uses on the proposed permit area were pastureland <br />and cropland, as shown on Map 9, Energy Mine No. 3 Land Qae. <br />Domestic livestock and wildlife utilized the area and hay was <br />harvested on the cropland prior to mining. <br />The location and eztent of acreage disturbed by previous coal <br />mining and reclamation operations are shown on Map 16, Energy Mine <br />No. 3 Fecla'atioa. The areal eztent of disturbed area, as defined <br />under Rule 1.04(36), eaiating within the proposed permit boundaries <br />is approziaiately 296 acres. Whereas, 382 acres have been affected, <br />as defined under Rule 1.04(7), but 82 of those acres have been <br />completely reclaimed and released from reclamation bonds. <br />(4) The application shall contain a description of the existing <br />land uses and land use classification under local law, if any, of the <br />proposed permit area and adjacent areas. <br />2.04-12 <br />• <br />
