National Register criteria jor evaluation. The quality of significance in Ameri-
can history, architecture, archaeology, and culture is present in districts, sites, build-
ings, structures, and objects of State and local importance that possess integrity of
location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, and assoctatton, and
(a) that are associated with events that have made a significant con-
C tribution to the broad patterns of our history;
' (b) that are associated with the lives of persons significant in our past;
or
4 (c) that embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or

(~ method of construction, or that represent the work of a master, or
i
h
h
l
t
at possess h
g
artistic va
ues, or that represent a significant and
;
I distinguishable entity whose components may lack individual
distinction; or
~,
'
(d) that have yielded, or may be likely to yield, information important
in prehistory or history.
Identification and evaluation of cultural resources in the project area permits
formulation of management recommendations. Isolated finds do not meet the crite-
ria for inclusion on the National Register and are not recommended for further
~ archaeological treatment. For significant sites, management options include site
`' avoidance and data recovery.
6.0 FIELD METHODS
The project area was walked by three archaeologists in systematic parallel
transects guided by topographic map and hand-held compass bearings. A maximum
distance of 15 m between transects was maintained at all times. In this manner, a
total of 360 acres, comprising 100% of the project area, was examined for cultural
resources to 100% intensity. Ground visibility was generally good throughout the
project area, averaging perhaps 80-90%.
The single site located was recorded on Colorado Cultural Resource Survey
inventory forms (Appendix A). A sketch map was prepared, 35 mm black-and-white
overview photographs were taken, and the stte was plotted on the USGS Cactus
Reservoir 7.5' uadrangle map. Isolated finds were recorded on Colorado Preserva-
_' tion Office Isolated Find Record forms (Appendix A). One isolated artifact was
collected and will be curated at Mesa State College in Grand 3unction, Colorado.
7.0 RESULTS
.~ Four cultural resources, comprising one prehistoric site and three prehistoric
isolated finds, were located during thts cultural resources inventory. Descriptions,
evaluations, and management recommendations for these resources are presented
below. The locations of the site and isolates are shown in Figures 3 and 4.
Site SRB3451
Site SRB3451 is a rather sparse scatter of lithics on a gently sloping, sandy,
sage-covered bench above a shallow tributary drainage to Red Wash. The site is at
