WILDLIFE• <br />The present occurrence of wildlife is limited to deer and elk, birds and <br />small rodents. <br />a) ]leer and Elk: This area is a wintering and migratory area far the native <br />deer and elk. Excavation operations will not be during winter months so <br />there should be little effect on the big game during excavation. After <br />completion of excavation the growth of native grasses will provide a <br />leeding area for all game. <br />b) F~irds and Rodents: This area is bordered by timbered area on the north <br />and west sides, and by pasture land on the south and east sides. At <br />completion of this project the area will be a feeding and nesting area <br />for these small animals and birds. The gravel pit should have little <br />effect on the overall wildlife habitat. <br />2. WATER RESOURCES: <br />The excavation of gravel on this site will not be involved with any type of <br />water use and will have no effect on the Los Pinos River located approxi- <br />mately 1,000 feet to the east. There are no flood hazards due to Vallecito <br />Reservoir located approximately 5 miles upstream. The local drainage area <br />above [he site is small and should propose no problems. <br />3. VEGETe1TI0N: ~. <br />The present vegetation is native grasses and perennial plants in the south- ~ <br />easterly corner and small pine trees with scrub oak undergrowth in the <br />northerly and westerly portion of the site. The estimated cover of trees is <br />appro>imately 65% with the average tree size approximately 6 inches in <br />diameter. All vegetation on the surrounding land will remain unchanged. <br />4.
