The Wllowing terms shall <br />have the following epeCiffc meanings: <br />(a) Active mfne means an underground <br />uranium mine which is being venti- <br />lated to allow workers to enter the <br />mine for aqy purpose. <br />(b) Elective dose equivalent menus the <br />cam of the prodnote of the absorbed <br />dose and appropriate effectiveness fao- <br />tors. These factors account for dif- <br />ferences mbiological afteativenese due <br />to the gaalitp of radiation and ire dis- <br />tribatioa in. the body of reference man. <br />The unit of the effective dose equiva- <br />lent fa the rem. The method for calca- <br />lating effective dose equivalent and the <br />definition of reference man are out- <br />lined 1n the International Commission <br />On Radiological Proteotioa'e Pabliaa- <br />tion No. 26. <br />40 CFR d1. l (7-1-01 Editbn) <br />(c) Underground uranium mine means <br />a man-made underground excavation <br />made for the parposa of removing ma- <br />Lerlai cohtairiing uranium for the prin- <br />cipal purpose of recovering aranimn. <br />[54 FR b1899. An underground nra- <br />ninm mine owner or operator shall cal- <br />onlate Lhe source terms to be need for <br />input into COMPLY-R by conducting <br />testing m accordance with the proce- <br />dnn9s described in appeadia B, Method <br />115, or <br />(b) Owners or operators map dem- <br />onetrate compliance with the emission <br />standard in this subpart through the <br />use of computer models that are equiv- <br />alent to COMPLY-R provided that the <br />model lies received prior approval from <br />EPA headquarters. This report <br />shall cover the emieeions of a calendar <br />pear and shall be sent to F,PA by <br />Maroh 31 of the following pear. Each <br />report shall also mclnde the following <br />information: <br />(1) The name and location of the <br />mine. <br />(2) The name of the person respon- <br />eible for the operation of the facility <br />and the name of the person preparing <br />the report (if different). <br />30 <br />
