Mww6 RAN EXHI&T D (CON7)
agriculture, a community airport, greenhouses, dryland pasture,
forested areas and rural residential.
Access to the site is via an existing road in the northeast
part of the site. Eventually a new access will be created along
the west side as shown on the mining plan map. This access will
be cut thru the embankment along County Road 60 into the old
mining area so as to create a level road from the mine floor to
the county road.
GEOLOGIC SETL7NG
The affected lands are located along the Fraser River on
the Granby Mesa in a Pleistocene age, Slocum alluvial deposit.
The sand and gravel encountered in this terrace deposit may
consist of some glacial drift remnants from the last ice age.
The deposit consists of colluvium and glacial till lying on
top of Pierre Shale bedrock. The underlying shale beds strike at
N87°W and dip 8° NE in the vicinity of the pit. Bedrock outcrops
in the southwest corner of the property, where a spring occurs,
concurrent with the elevation of the bedrock, at an approximate
elevation of 8110 feet. Depths of gravel have been confirmed to
an elevation of 8125 in the west-central part of the deposit and
can be easily inferred to depths greater than the proposed
ultimate pit depth. This type material is typically found in and
around Granby between the Fraser and Colorado Rivers on the mesa.
The quantity of course gravels and sand are approximately 80~
rock to 208 sand with some large boulder intermixed. It appears
to be of fairly uniform depth across the property exceeding 100
feet deep in the northeast corner and slopes to the southwest
corner where the ridge begins to drop into the river bottom.
soars aNn ovExsrnenE2v
See the soils and vegetation information for the soils report
prepared by the Natural Resources Conservation Service regarding
the soils on this site. The soil information prepared by the
MRCS is not site specific, it describes in general terms the
nature of the soils found at this site.
This site consists predominately of the Quander stoney loam
15 to 558 slopes and Youga loam, 15 to 458 slopes. These soils
are deep, well drained and occupy most swales, mountain fans and
depressions at elevation ranging from 8000 to 9000 feet. Origins
4
