Additional lands oer February 1983 Revision
` The additional permit area is comprised of two portions: (1) the portion
• to the north acquired from A.P. Green consisting of 230 acres and (2) the
portion to the south acquired from G.R. Griswold and CF&I Steel con-
sisting of 404 acres.
The northern area consists of steep, sparsely vegetated hillsides ranging
from 6400 feet to 6750 feet elevation. The southern area consists of
similar hillsides ranging from 6600 feet to 7650 feet elevation rising
toward Fishers Peak to the southeast.
Topsoil in both areas consists of only a thin veneer, and on steeper
slopes, bedrock is exposed. Coal outcrops are usually covered with
weathered material but usually a dark color indicates their presence.
No perennial streams flow through either area, and vegetation consists
of pinon-juniper at approximately 15% cover.
Previous mining has occurred on part of both areas, as shown on Map No.
( 6 and the northern area borders some abandoned portals from the
• Starkville and Moore Mines.
No existing (pre-mining) environmental resources within the two areas
will be affected by the proposed mining. There are no surface buildings,
structures or water bodies that require protection from subsidence.
The effect on groundwater from the proposed mining is discussed in
Section 2.04.7 (1) Ground Plater Information.
Subsidence, its effects and mitigation measures are discussed in 2.05.6 (6)
Subsidence Survey, Monitoring and Control Plans and in 2.05.6 (3) Protection
of the Hydrologic Balance.
* NOTE: The A.P. Green lease has not been renewed, therefore
is no longer part of the permit area. If it is re-leased,
it will be added at that time.
u
38
