A sediment and drainage control plan prepared for the Bear opera-
tion will minimize or eliminate impacts to the North Fork of the
• Gunnison River. Following mining, and the conclusion of reclama-
tion, vegetation will be reestablished, and the area will not
cause any contamination, diminution, or interruption to the
surface water system.
The hydrologic features of the general area are shown on the
Regional Geology Map (Map 5). Detailed sediment control struc-
tures of the surface facilities area are included and shown in
Exhibit 11.
Ground and surface water uses are not expected to be impacted in
the vicinity of. the Bear operations. The uses are mainly limited
in the Somerset area because of the lack of room for any other
beneficial uses besides residential and mining use. .Because the
Bear Coal Company will be mining coal at elevations above the
North Fork of the Gunnison River, there will be no impact on uses
developed in the canyon floor. The Bear Coal Company operations
may impact some perched systems within the permit boundaries, but
will not affect any regional, continuous aquifer. Because the
Bear Coal Company operations will not impact any surface water
users in the North Fork of the Gunnison River, and because the
adverse impact on any groundwater perched systems will be limited
to the actual permit area, there is no need to identify alterna-
tive water supplies for users in the area.
•
• 2.04-32
Revised June 29, 1990
