-2-
~~
4. Good surface drainage should be provided during the life of the
haul road.
P
SITE CONDITIONS
A haul road is to be constructed east of the Snowmass Coal Office.
.. The road will extend from an equipment storage yard, west to a coal
•' processing waste disposal area. The proposed alignment of the haul road
and a topographic map of the area is presented on Fig. 1. The ground
1
surface along most of the alignment slopes to the south and east at
grades of about 2:1 (horizontal to vertical). The surface below the
. alignment tends to flatten. Weathered claystone and sandstone bedrock
•- was exposed over much of the area. Vegetation was relatively sparse and

consisted of native grasses, weeds and some shrubs.
Garfield County Road 108 is above the proposed roadway and
~-
L apparently was constructed by cutting into the hillside. Bedrock was
exposed along most of the length, An existing haul road below the

~~ proposed alignment was constructed by cutting uphill and filling
downhill. Bedrock was also exposed in cuts along this road.
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION ~°' •-
At the time this report was Drepared, no definite construction plans
~~ for the road had been made. Snowmass Loal Company informed us that the
road would begin at the eastern edge of an equipment storage yard, (STA.
0+00) and approximately follow the ground contours at relatively level
grades to Station 7+00 where the rpad would slope downward to the top of
the wile (Sta. 13+00). The service width of the haul road is to be
