Operator - Castle Concrete Company. <br />3. File No. - 77-210. <br />4. Operation type- Quarry aggregate - limestone onen pit & underground. <br />5. General location - one mile west of Colorado Springs, Colorado <br />adjacent to h4anitou Springs, Colorado. <br />6. Affected land - 27 acres surface disturbance. <br />7. History of the Ouarry - Castle Concrete began mining at this site <br />in 1970 as a combination open pit and underground mine. <br />8. Mining Plan - <br />a. Amount of topsoil - All topsoil and overburden has been stripped <br />from the area by post-mining activity. <br />b. Mining Method - <br />I. Mining of the open pit is done by drilling, blasting and <br />removing the limestone by front end loaders and truc<s <br />to the processing site where it is hauled off site when <br />needed. This results in alternating benches (15 ft. ~:ircle wide) <br />and steep faces (20 ft. high). A maximum of 3 + acr~as v~ill <br />be worked at any one time. <br />II. Method of mining underground - currently there are ttiao <br />portals and adits on the west side of the pit. Mining <br />is done by the conventional room and pillar methods -- <br />75 years life of mine. <br />c. Life of the mine - approximately 75 years. <br />(60 yrs. open pit and 75 yrs. underground) <br />9. A noise and sight barrier berm will be constructed. <br />10. Reclamation Plan: <br />a. Final land use - commerical storage. <br />b. Basic Reclamation Sequence. <br />I. The noise and sight berm will be constructed during the <br />next 10 years. <br />
