Outline-Snyder Quarry Application to MLRB
1. Name of Operation - Snyder Quarry.
2. Operator - Castle Concrete Company.
3. File No. - 77-210.
4. Operation type- Quarry aggregate - limestone onen pit & underground.
5. General location - one mile west of Colorado Springs, Colorado
adjacent to h4anitou Springs, Colorado.
6. Affected land - 27 acres surface disturbance.
7. History of the Ouarry - Castle Concrete began mining at this site
in 1970 as a combination open pit and underground mine.
8. Mining Plan -
a. Amount of topsoil - All topsoil and overburden has been stripped
from the area by post-mining activity.
b. Mining Method -
I. Mining of the open pit is done by drilling, blasting and
removing the limestone by front end loaders and truc<s
to the processing site where it is hauled off site when
needed. This results in alternating benches (15 ft. ~:ircle wide)
and steep faces (20 ft. high). A maximum of 3 + acr~as v~ill
be worked at any one time.
II. Method of mining underground - currently there are ttiao
portals and adits on the west side of the pit. Mining
is done by the conventional room and pillar methods --
75 years life of mine.
c. Life of the mine - approximately 75 years.
(60 yrs. open pit and 75 yrs. underground)
9. A noise and sight barrier berm will be constructed.
10. Reclamation Plan:
a. Final land use - commerical storage.
b. Basic Reclamation Sequence.
