' MINING PLAN
The DeBetz Gravel Pit was initially excavated iri 1960
by the previous property owners. Since acquiring the property
in 1973, Adams County has mined the land for purposes of gravel
extraction. This gravel git will continue to be operated by the
' County as a wet pit, primarily focusing its operations during the
late winter and early spring for a five to six month interval.
Average extraction amounts in the past have been approximately
' 100,000 tons annually. This tonnage is expected to range from
100,000 to 170,000 tons annually for the life of the permit. Act-
' ual mining and crushing of aggregate has been done by a contractor.
Screening and loading has been performed by Adams County p~:rsonnel.
' Equipment at the mining site during the operational months include
a dragline, dozers, front-end loaders, and an assortment o:F hauling
trucks. Since sand and gravel is stockpiled during operational
' months and utilized throughout the year for highway maintenance and
construction, a conveyor and a stabilization plant may be ].orated
' on the site on a year-round basis.
Phasing
1 The complete mining operation will be conducted in two
phases which will create a 42 acre lake when completed (see pageB-4).
Phase I - Phase I will last for approximately 15 years
and include the pit site within an existing fenced area, ap-
proximately 44 acres. A mechanical dragline will extract the
material after the overburden is removed and stockpiled. The

aggregate will be separated according to particle size by a
B-2
