The soil at this site is ZZD, Tfii`s mapping unit consists of shallow, hard,
loamy soils, They are gravelly and,cobbly on the surface and throughout the
profile, These soils occur on gently sloping to strongly sloping slopes,
They have developed on gravelly and cobbly outwash materials, They take
water well; but have a limited water-holding capacity because of the high
content of gravel anal cobble,
The elevation ranges from 9,000 to 10,400 feet.. The annual precipitatjon
ranges from 12 to 17 inches. Native vegetation occuring on this site consists
of Arizona fescue, Western wheatgrass, blue grams, Junegrass, Mountain and
slimstem mutely, fringe sage and other forbs.
This site may be observed south and east of Fairplay, between Fairplay and
Alma, and east of Como along the Elkhorn road (east of Highway 285).
Tfiis soil occurs on gently sloping to steep topography. It is an inclusion
in the Mountain Outwssh range site,
At the type location this soil is on a 2-percent slope Facing southeast.
Elevation is approximately 9975 feet.
The type location is across the South Platte River, across from Fairplay
(South Park City) on the cut along tfie river bank. SW< of Sec. 33, T95,
R77W of tfie 6th P,M,
Typifying pedon: Sand loam
Al 0-4" Dark broom C7.SYR 3/2) moist, sandy loam; moderate fine
granular structure; soft very friable; contains gravels;
clear smooth boundary.
AC 4-11" Dark brown C7,SYR 3/4) moist, sandy loam; moderate fine
granular structure; this Iayer contains 15 to 20-percent
gravels; soft, very friable; gradual and smooth boundary,
C 11"+ Brown (7,SyR 4/3} moist, cobbly loamy sand; this layer
contains 60 to 70 percent gravel, cobble, and stones.
