<br /> <br />' INTRODUCTION! <br />A cultural resource inventory has been conducted by Nickens <br />and Associates in the Red Canyon Mine Plan Area northwest of Cedaredge, <br />Delta County, Colorado. The survey was conducted in response to the <br />Grand Mesa Coal Company's plans for the construction of a refuse pile <br />and sediment pond. A 10; sample survey was also conducted on possible <br />subsidence areas within the mine plan permit area. <br />' The Red Canyon Mine Plan Area is located approximately three <br />miles northwest of Cedaredge, Colorado in portions of Sections 2, Il, <br />12, and 13, Township 135, Range 95W (Figure I). All of the land in <br />the project area is private ownership or is owned by the Grand Mesa <br />Coal Company. NJo public lands were involved in the survey (Figure 2). <br />' The survey area boundaries were inspected by Ron Rood of Nickens <br />and Associates and Larry Reschke of the Grand Mesa Coal Company on <br />July 20, 1981. Fieldwork was conducted by Ron Rood and Joan Gaunt <br />' of Nickens and Associates, Montrose, Colorado. Dr. Paul R.
