Long
Division Director
Please review the enclosed reclamation cost estimate for the Angie Pit. The calculation was based on the
scenario where 6.2 acres of Phase II is fully developed and Phase I has 3.8 acres that has been topsoiled
but requires revegetation tasks to be performed. The revisions submitted to DMG on this date were
incorporated into the application and this calculation. Please be sure to place those pages on file with the
county clerk and recorder, and submit proof of receipt, by the clerk, prior to the July 7, 200 decision due
date.
Because of the uncertainty of adequate backfill material being available for highwall reduction, Cut and fill
methods were used to calculate the highwall reduction. This increases the disturbed area by approximately
three acres, but uses the most cost efficient method of highwall reduction and requires the least amount of
material.
Revegetation tasks were calculated for 15 acres. 3.8 acres of the Phase I pit, 6.2 acres of the Phase II pit,
a 2 acre footprint for the Phase I topsoil stockpile, and 3 acres where the crest of the Phase II highwall was
cut to fill the lower half of the highwall. The revegetation task also includes costs for mulch, though mulch
was not specified in the reclamation plan. In lieu of requiring plans and costs for an irrigatien system, DMG
will include the mulch costs in the reclamation cost estimate and, if the state should ever be required to
reclaim this site, mulch will be applied if the means to irrigate are not available at that time.
If you find any methodology errors in the calculation, please notify me as soon as possible. If you agree
with the calculation, then the calculated amount of 540,539.00 is the amount of financial warranty that will
be required for this operation.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Durango Field
Office, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, telephone no. 970-247-5062.
Sincerely,
Steve .
