• •
that statutory provision upon finding that there is or may be reasonable potential
for degradation of groundwater quality that adversely affects existing or
reasonable potential future uses of groundwater". The actions listed previously
are expected to reduce 'the pond volumes, and with frequent pumpage of the
leachate, WRN believes there is not a "reasonable potential to adversely affect
the groundwater". Good evidence of no historical leakage from the ponds is the
sagebrush which grows along the downhill slope from the ponds. Sagebrush is
very sensitive to salts and there is no indication that leakage has occurred.
If WRN used the term of recycled pond water, which collected from between
the liners, maybe this would be more descriptive and accurate.
Please review the enclosed information with the concept that historically,
increased leachate has been noted during cold weather, and the ponds contain
more volume of water than in the past. WRN has increased the frequency of
leachate pumpage and are in the process of installation of methods to reduce
pond volumes. Early data for April indicates reduced rates of pumpage are
necessary to maintain minimal leachate between the liners.
If there are any questions or need for additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,_^~
~~"" - ~
Ed Baker, REM
Envir./Safety Manager
cc: Meeker BLM
