<br />The Grassland along "Limestone Ridge" is a remnant of the original vegetation cover of Dowe
<br />Flats. Although it has experienced heavy disturbance through grazing and other activities, it
<br />retains a diversity of native plants not found in the more extensive created pastures and
<br />cultivated land adjacent. Dominant species in this stand are the perennial native grasses blue
<br />grama (Bouteloua gr~cilis), western wheatgrass (q,g~4pyron smithii), needleandthread (Stioa
<br />comata), bottlebrosh squirreltail (Sitanion longifolium), and Fendler three-awn (Aristida
<br />fendleriana), along with the non-native intermediate wheatgrass (,4,gropyron intermediuml,
<br />standard crested wheatgrass (Aeropyron desertorum), smooth brome, and Russian wildrye.
<br />Introduced annual grasses are locally prominent, and include cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum),
<br />which is especially abundant, as well as Japanese brome (Bromus iaoonicus), annual ryegrass
<br />(Secale cereale), and wheat (Triticum aestivum). Native annual grasses present in very small
<br />amounts aze sixweeks fescue (Vulpia octoflora) and false buffalograss (Munroa sguarrosa).
<br />Shrubs are scattered spazsely but rather uniformly and include rubber rabbitbrush
<br />(Chrysothamnus nauseosus), winterfat (Krascheninnikovia Janata), three-leaf sumac (Rhos
<br />• rilo a ,prickly rose (Rosa acicularis), and snakeweed. The numerous forts present include
<br />textile onion (Allium textile), prickly poppy, fringed sage (Artemisia friEida), white prairieaster
<br />(Aster ericoides), Porter aster (Aster porteri), slender milkvetch (Astir galus gracilis), three-leaf
<br />milkvetch (As r galus tridac(ylicus), downy paintbrush (Castill~ja sessiliflora), mouse-ear
<br />chickweed (Cerastium arvense), James hiddenflower (Cryptantha jamesii), wafer-parsnip
<br />(Cymopterus acaulis), white prairie clover (Dalea candida), low fleabane (Erieeron pumilus),
<br />slenderbush wildbuckwheat (Eriogonum effusum), robust spurge (Euphorbia robusta), wallflower
<br />(Ervsimum asnerum), evolvulus (Evolwlus nuttalliana), blanketflower (Gaillazdia aristata),
<br />scarlet gaura (Laura coccinea), ironplant goldenweed (Haolop~ppus s~inulosus), stiff sunflower
<br />(Helianthus rieidus vaz. subrhomboideus), hairy goldenaster (Heterotheca villosa), thread-leaved
<br />hymeopappus (Hvmenop~ppus filifolius), low bladderpod ~querella montana), sandlily
<br />(L.eucocrinum montanum), spotted gayfeather (Liatris punctata), Lewis flax (Linum lewisii),
<br />salt-and-pepper (Lomatium orientate), bractless blazingstar (Mentzelia nuda), yellow blazingstar
<br />(Mentzelia ~iosa), lanceleaf chimingbells (Mertensia lanceolata), musineon in n
