In 1998, WFC backfilled and graded 19.56 acres. WFC topsoiled 22.28 acres and permanently seeded
31.41 acres. This reclamation work will greatly reduce the runoff of sediment from disturbed land to our
sediment ponds. Ponds 002-006 were visually surveyed for adequate sediment and water storage
capacity for the 25yr - 24hr event. They appeared to have sufficient capacity. Ponds 001 and 007 were
also observed during the year and no significant sediment inflow was observed. Their sediment volume
should be adequate.
Were changes made to your SWMP? Yes
At the New Horizon II area, a new perimeter ditch was constructed along the south-western portion of
the permit to contain any runoff from newly disturbed ground. This ditch discharges into the existing
Pond 007. There was no measurable flow through this ditch for the entire year.
B. A SUMMARY OF EACH COMPREHENSIVE STORMWATER FACILITY INSPECTION
MADE....
New Horizon Mine is small enough in land area that all active areas in the permit boundary are
inspected for SWMP compliance daily, Monday -Friday. This includes ditches, culverts,
sediment ponds, diversion ditches, petroleum storage facilities, and etc. Non-active areas, such
as established reclaimed areas awaiting reclamation band release, are inspected weekly, with
detailed inspections monthly. Any deficiencies noted during any of the inspections were
corrected promptly.
In the New Horizon I area, no maintenance work was necessary. All ditches and culverts appeared to
be functioning properly.
C. RESULTS AND INTERPRETATION OF ANY STORMWATER MONITORING..
Sediment Ponds 001 and 007 water discharges were tested weekly for the parameters listed in our
NPDES permit. All samples passed the water quality parameter set by our NPDES permit. Ponds 002 -
006 never discharged.
D: \da [a\wpda to \storm\96sumprp. doc 2-3
