Drilling to a TD of 1420 ft was
completed on July 8, 1999.
Drilled from surface to 62 ft with a 19 -inch-diameter tri-cone rock bit.
A 14-inch-outside diameter (OD) surface conductor casing was run to 62 ft
and cemented in place.
After the conductor casing cement hardened, a 12.25-inch-diameter tri-
• cone long tooth button bit was used to advance the well to a TD of 1420 ft.
Rock chip samples were separated from drilling fluids in a cyclone
separator and passed over a shaker table for recovery at 5-ft intervals.
Drilling fluid consisted of clear water, with a light bentonite and polymer
mud additive. Geophysical logs were recorded on July 9, 1999.
Dissolution Surface
To prepare the borehole for the first and deepest monitor well installation,
the hole was cemented from 1420 ft (TD) up to 1316 ft with 77 sacks of
Class A Type II cement with ' 1 % calcium chloride. The cement was
placed via a string of 1.75-inch-OD tremie line composed of nominal ZO-ft
pipe joints.
The Dissolution Zone well (21-3D) was installed after the cement set, and
completed with a 10-ft fiberglass, #20 slot screen at 1273 to 1283 ft near
the Dissolution Surface (1307 ft).
The silica sand filter pack was placed from 1262 to1292 ft. Bentonite hole
plug was placed immediately above and below the sand filter pack at 1238
to 1262 ft and 1292 to 1316 ft, respectively. All annular fill materials were
placed via the 2.19-inch-OD tremie line.
The Dissolution Zone well casing was constructed with a string of Centron
2.375-inch, 1.29 Ib/ft, upset end fiberglass casing in nominal 29-ft lengths
from surface to 1273 ft.
