Box 302
Mancos, CO 81328
Dear Mr. Noland,
The following information is provided at your request in
order to meet the reclamation plan requirements of the
"Colorado Mined Reclamation Act" and subsequent rules and
regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for
the Noland Gravel Pit located approximately 2 miles west of
Mancos, Colorado on Hwy 160 in T36N., R14W., Sec. 36.
A. INITIAL EXCAVATION AND TOPSOILING
1.) Topsoil should be stockpiled during the period of
excavation and upon completion of mining activities
replaced to a depth of 24 to 36" were possible. If
topsoil will for an extended period of time it should
be vegetated in order to reduce erosion. Any runoff
coming off the stockpiled topsoil or other areas of the
mining site should be contained and diverted into a
holding pond or existing gravel pit in order avoid
allowing any contaminants to reach Mud Creek, located
just to the west of the proposed gravel pit. Spreading
of topsoil should not be done when the topsoil is
frozen, excessively wet, or in a condition that is
difficult to work. After topsoil has been replaced,
final grading should be done to produce a relatively
smooth finish that blends in well with the surrounding
area. All final slopes at field boundaries should not
exceed 3:1. Irrigated fields should not exceed an 8%
slope. Any areas where the current vegetation will be
destroyed will need to be revegetated.
B.) REVEGETATION
1.) Seedbed preparation - A clean, weed free, firm seedbed
should be established before any seeding is done. If
soil is compacted due to the use of heavy equipment
some tillage should be done to break up compaction to
increase water infiltration and rooting depth.
Approximately 2 weeks to 1 month should be allowed
