EXPLANATORY ADDEI~DUh1

EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
PIKEVIEW QUARRY 77-211
C. Exhibit D - Mininq Plan

1) Please state how many acres of previously undisturbed
land will be mined and show their location on the map.
RESPONSE C1. All land has been affected and disturbed
to some degree. In general the amount of land with at least some
foliage on it that will be actively mined in the future, corresponds to
the amount of land within the permit boundary that is presently
covered by some native vegetation. This amount is about 45.2 acres.
3) P-D-S - The 12° to 18° slopes would be 4 1/2:1 and 3:1.
•
This is considered level enough to save topsoil.
RESPONSE C3. It is agreed that soil can be salvaged from
slopes in the vicinity of 2:1 if you have a long, smooth slope, devoid
of large rocks, a good outrun, and a push-pull scraper. Unfortunately,
these optimal conditions do not exist at this site. Where slopes are
sufficiently gradual (and many have a 50 to 100 percent slope) the
limestone outcrops in little shelves every few feet and the soil is
full of large rocks. Generally, the soils are very thin and form a
superficial layer only a fecr inches deep in most areas. The vegetation
is often supported in small pockets or on shelves where the soil crould
have to be salvaged by hand.
We do not believe the limit, as stated in the application,

should be changed as the conditions do not allow safe salvage on
P-D-B*
