1.23 To soiled Acres 1989
Trapper retopsoiled 125 acres during 1989 in Ashmore, Colt and Derringer pits
and included a 51.8-acre non-seeded plot in D pit (TR-46).
1.2.4 Species Planted During 1989
The species and seeding rates used at Trapper during 1989 were presented for
approval in Appendix W (1988) in Tables 7-1 thru 7.7. They were approved by
CMLRD on 8/15/89 (MR90). The mixes were seeded as approved. See Table
1.1 and maps 1.0. There were 79 acres revegetated to perennial species.
1.2.5 Augmented Seeding and/or Cultural Practices
In addition to 1989 replaced topsoil revegetation practices, Trapper also con-
ducts several augmented seeding and/or cultural practices. These practices are
addressed below.
Mature Shrub Transplant Clumps
Trapper constructed one 1.6-acre shrub clump in 1989, located just above the
6700-ft contour line in Derringer Pit and adjacent to monitoring well GD-3.
Trapper has constructed 12 of these clumps to date (19.2 acres) for wildlife
habitat improvement purposes.
Seeding Shrub Clump
Trapper built a 1.2 acre shrub clump using 6 species of bareroot and con-
tainerized stock. The clump is located in Derringer Pit just above the 6700-ft
contour line in Middle Coyote drainage. The species planted include oak,
chokecherry, golden current, sumac, woods rose and snowberry.
Drainageway Reconstruction
The acreages, location and methods are fully described in Section 3.0 of this
annual report.
Diversion Ditch Reclamation
During 1989, Trapper removed approximately 7.5 acres of diversion ditches in
Ashmore, Derringer and Enfield pits. Ditches were removed from our erosion
control system since vegetation success and the remaining diversion systems are
proving adequate to handle the runoff events. After ditches are closed, they are
seeded to the appropriate range site mix based on elevation. The areas
reclaimed are documented on our annual fall aerial photos.
v
