DRAFT
_ Materials not meeting the specified moisture content and dry density requirements, as determined by
the tests, shall be reworked until approved results are obtained. Reworking may include removal,
rehandling, reconditioning, rerolling or combinations of these procedures. The Contractor shall be
entitled to no additional allowance above the prices of [he work required to achieve the placement
moisture content and density specified in this section.
The moisture content of the earthfill material prior to and during compaction shall be distributed
uniformly throughout each layer of the material. As far as practicable, the materials shall be brought
to the proper moisture content by adding supplementary water, if required, to the material by
sprinkling on the earthfill and each layer of earthfill shall be conditioned so that the moisture is
uniform throughout the layer.
Density control of compacted earthfill shall be such that the dry density of the compacted material, as
determined by tests performed by the Engineer, shall conform to not less than 90% of its Proctor
maximum dry density. Material which does not meet these requirements will be rejected and shall be
reworked until a dry density equal [o or greater than these requirements is reached.
3.06 PLACING AND COMPACTING
A. Compacted Fill
The material shall be placed in areas shown on the Plans in continuous and approximately horizontal
layers, not more than 12- inch loose lifts. The combined excavation and placing operations shall be
such that [he materials will be sufficiently blended [o secure the best practicable degree of compaction
and stability.
The material shall be compacted to 90% of the Standard Proctor as described in ASTM D-698. The
method of compaction shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval.
END OF SECTION
