Box 1019
Montrose, Colorado 81402
Attention: Mr. Mark Haldorson
PN: M04030GE
Subject: Geotechnical Engineering Field and Laboratory Study
George Property on
Spring Creek Mesa West. of
Montrose, Colorado
Mr. Haldorson:
This letter presents the results of our February 2 through
February 6, 2004 geotechnical engineering field and laboratory
study for your proposed project. The field study consisted of
observing, describing and sampling the soil materials encountered
in two (2} backhoe excavated test holes at the site. The
approximate locations of the test holes are shown on Figure 1.
The logs describing the soil materials encountered in the test
holes are presented on Figures 2 through 4.
At the time of our field study the site was vacant. The
proposed site is currently used for irrigated agricultural
purposes. The site slopes down to the north at an inclination
ranging from about twenty (20) to one (1) (horizontal to
vertical) and flatter. The slopes at the east edge of the
proposed site become steeper and form the crest of Spring Creek
Mesa.
The shallow soil materials encountered in the test borings
consisted generally of clay material with varying amounts of sand
and gravel from the surface to a depth of about two and one-half
(2;~) to three and one-half (3~) feet. Sand and gravel material
with cobbles and boulders was encountered in the test holes at a
depth two and one-half (2~) to three and one-half (334) feet.
Formational material was not encountered in the test holes to a
depth of about eight (8) feet, the maximum depth explored.
Free subsurface water was not encountered in the test holes at
the time of our field study.
The field study included performing percolation tests in the
bottom of the test holes to help identify the water flow
P.O.
