In Eckman Park, potassium ranged from 0.1 me/1 to 5.2 me/1, <br />with an average of 1.0 me/l. <br />Ludwick, et. al. (1975) reports that for fertility requirements <br />these soils would be classified as "high" in potassium bearing <br />potential. <br />Catior. Exchange Capacity. A total of 85 samples were cnalyzed for <br />cation exchange capacity. Hei] (1976) found topsoils in the <br />Energy Mine No. 1 area t~ range from 17.1 meq/1008 to 30.9 meq/100g, <br />with an average of 23.0 meq/100g. Heil (1978 found cation exchange <br />capacity values Co range fro~o 18.2 meq/100g to 31.3 meq/100g with <br />an average of 23.2 meq/100g. In Eckman Park, cation exchange <br />capacity values were found to range from 10.7 meq/lOCg to 45.2 <br />• meq/100g, with an average of 18.4 meq/100g. <br />The cation exchange capacity values obtained indicate that these <br />soils have a relatively high ability to retain important cations <br />and anions for plant nutrition. <br />Conclusions on Soil Nutrient Status. No known soil deficiencies or <br />toxicities can be inferred from the samples collected to date. <br />Trace Elements. Since the soil content of trace elements is an <br />important consideration in determining plant growth response and <br />potential water quality parameters; a brief discussion of some of <br />the most salient trace elements examined is presented below. <br />Iron. Heil (1976) reported that total iron values from the Energy <br />Mine No. 1 area to range from 2.00 percent to 3.75 percent, with an <br />average of 2.63 percent.
