Section 779.21 (a) Continued.
• reported a range of 0.7 percent to 10.8 percent, with an average
of 4.8 percent. Along Fish Creek, at Afine No. 2, organic matter
percentages ranged from 0.64 to 5.61 percent with an avF.rage of
2.96 percent. Energy Fuels found a range of 0.34 to 19.44 percent,
with an average of 5.61 percent organic matter in tl~e Eckman Park
area.
Heil (1976) reports that values of about 3 percent are considered
"high" in organic matter. Ludwick, et. al. (1975) state that soils
with organic matter percentages above 2 percent, no fertilization
is necessary for normal plant growth.
Phosphorus. A total of 112 samples taken from the permit area were
analyzed for phosphorous. Heil (1976) found bicarbonate phosphorous
levels on Energy Mine t7o. 1 ranging from 1 ppm to 34 ppm, with an
average of 9.5 ppm. U.S. Department of Agriculture researchers,
• found phosphorous to range from 6.8 ppm to 39 ppm, with an average
of 19.0 ppm. Heil (1978) found phcsphorous to range from 1 ppm to
133 ppm, with an average of 20.9 ppm. In the C-20900 Lease area ~f
Energy Mine No. 2, phosphorous ranged from 3.0 ppm to 38.7 ppm,
with an average of 17.9 ppm. In Eckman Park, phosphorous values
ranged from 0.6 ppm to 35.0 ppm, with an average of 10.2 ppm.
According to the standards published by Ludwick, et. al. (1975)
soils having greater than 7 ppm extractable phcsph~rus levels
require ro fertilization for crop production. The samples taken
would be labeled as being of "medium" phosphorous bearing potential.
Potassium. A total of 112 samples taken from the permit area were
analyzed for potassium. Heil (1976) reported a range in water
soluble potassium of 0.07 to 2.0 me/1, with an average of 0.56
me/1. Researchers at Colorado State University found potassium to
range from 217 ppm to 570 ppm, with an average of 315 ppm. On the
. C-20900 Lease area in Energy :tine No. 2, potassium ranged from 124
779-296
