Section 779.22 (b) Continued.
•
(4) The approximate dates of past mining; and
(5) The uses of the land preceeding mining.
As delineated in the Introduction to this permit application,
mining operations began within the mine plan area at the Energy
Mine No. 1 in 1962. All coal removed by these operations has come
exclusively from surface mining. The majority of the coal mined at
the Energy Mine No. 1 has been exposed by the use of three large
draglines: a Marion 7400 (14-cubic yard bucket), a Bucyrus-Erie
770 (21-cubic yard bucket), and a Piarion 8050 (55-cubic yard
bucket). The draglines have ~:~orked in a "strip-pit" configuration,
sidecasting into the adjacent mined-out pits. At Mine No. 2 coal
has been uncovered by two smaller (7-cubic .yard) draglines and, as
practicable, by bulldozers and scrapers, The coal has been removed
utilizing front-end loaders and a fleet of 50-ton trucks to haul
the coal to the crushing and load-out facilities.
• At the Energy Mine No. 1, the Wadge Coal Seam has been the primary
target of the mining operations; however, where the Lennox Coal
Seam occurs in sufficient quantities and pith marketable quality,
Energy Fuels has also mined Lennox Coal. The Fish Creek Coal Seam
has been mined from the Energy Mine No. 2. From 1962 through 1978,
over 15 million tons of coal have been mined at the Energy Mine No.
1. Approximately 4 million tons of coal have been mined from 1972
through 1978 at Ptine N.o. 2.
All maps included within this permit application delineate the
following areas:
(1) Area mined prior to August 3, 1977;
(2) Area mined after August 3, 1977 and prior to May 3, 1978; and
• (3) Area mined after May 3, 1978 and prior to September 1, 1979.
779-315
