NOTICE OF INTENT TO EXPLORE
INVOLVING REMOVAL OF 250 TONS OR LESS OF COAL
SPRUCE STOMP COAL EXPLORATION PLAN AREA
PAGE 18
• Earthmoving Required For New Roads and Sites
Specific drill sites and road routes have been selected. If it is assumed that all roadways
are on side slopes averaging 20°; roadways are cut 12 ft in width, with half cut and half
fill; and the road embankment is cut back on a 1.5:1 slope, excavation of approximately
52 cubic yards per 100 feet of roadway will be required, or a total of 2,700 cubic yards.
BRL does not expect that anywhere near this volume will have to be excavated to
construct the proposed roads. Assuming that subdued terrain is identified for each drill
site with side slopes averaging 10% and all excavation is half cut and half fill, with side
slopes cut back on 1.5:1, a total excavation of 120 cubic yards (after adjustment for
topsoil salvage) would be required for each site, producing a total for all sites of 1,300
cubic yards. This creates a project total of 11,800 cubic yards of material (including
topsoil) to be redistributed during reclamation. BRL will minimize disturbance due to
both road construction and drill site preparation by locating roads and sites in the most
subdued topography possible.
Seed Mixture For Reclamation
BRL proposes the following seed mixtures required by the USDA -Forest Service for the
Spruce Stomp Coal Exploration Plan. A table describing these seed mixtures follows:
I •
r~
