2.02 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR COAL EXPLORATION
•
2.02.1 Scope
This section establishes the requirements for coal exploration outside
an approved permit area and is intended to ensure that such exploration is
conducted in a manner that protects the environment and complies with these
Rules. As set forth in Rule 1.04(22), coal exploration includes the
gathering of environmental data before beginning surface coal mining and
reclamation operations. These requirements include filing of notices of
intent when 250 tons or less of coal will be removed during exploration,
complying with coal exploration and reclamation standards, and ensuring
public availability of coal exploration information.
•
2.02.2 Exploration Involving Removal of 250 Tons or Less of Coal
A complete written notice of intention to explore and other pertinent
correspondence relating to locating the intake shaft for the Hawk's Nest
East Portal area is included in Appendix I. The revised exploration plan
involved drilling from the turnout on the access road using accepted
drilling procedures. This was done during August 1980 and again in
December 1980. Hydrologic and drilling reports are included in Appendix
II. If approval is obtained, WSC will drill three exploration holes on the
pending North Lease and three on the eastern portion of the existing mine.
Additional exploration may be done from inside the mine.
2.02.3 General Reouirements: Exol
No exploration activities will involve more than 250 tons of coal
•
removal.
2.02-1
