S e~ ties Rate in lbs/acre
Western Wheatgrass 7
Slender Wheatgrass 5
Bluebunch Wheatgrass 6
Indian Ricegrass 5
The entire slope was mulched with excelsior mats (Photograph
111. Approximately 200 rabbitbrush and 100 snowberry native plant
shrub tubelings were planted m this slope in the fall 1979.
Management
This area is within the fence so there has been no grazing.
Additional fertilizer (30-10-0) was applied at the rate of 120
lbs/acre in the spring of 1980 and 1981.
Results
Cover on the slope directly above the sediment ponds is 60-70
percent; however, north of the ponds there is approximately 30 feet
of slope that has sloughed and there are very few surviving plants.
On the portion of the slope which was retopsoiled (north end) cover
averages 20-30 percent (Photograph 12). Seeded perennial species
evident m the slope are western wheatgrass, slender wheatgrass, and
Indian ricegrass. Fringed sage, leafy spurge, and golden corydalis,
are also present on the slope. None of the shrub tubelings are
evident.
Recommendations
Areas where this slope has sloughed should be reseeded. and
remulched to eventually stabilize this portion fo the slope. Cm -
tinual spring fertilization will enhance vegetative growth leading
to better ground cover. Interseeding sparse areas with species such
as Indian ricegrass and green needlegrass will also lead to the
development of more ground cover.
Diversion Ditch
Physical Characteristics
This diversion ditch was constructed in the summer of 1979 and
reseeded that fall. The ditch starts above the mine portal and the
lower end of the ditch curves down to the highway at the north end
of the parking lot. This ditch was cut into the hillside, resulting
in very steep upper and lower slopes and the floor of the ditch is
primarily a rocky substrate.
..~
