• precipitation is expected. The removed sediment will be hauled to the
Kerr mine area and disposed of by burying it to a depth of greater than
50 feet to the pits.
The pond will be examined for structural weakness, erosion and other
hazardous conditions on a quarterly basis and reports will be submitted
to the regulatory authority.
Unless otherwise needed or required by State or Federal law. the
sedimentation pond will be completely removed and reclaimed after the
termination of operations. but not until the disturbed area has been
restored and revegetation requirements are met.
DISCHARGE STRUCTURES
Kerr Coal has designed both discharge channels (emergency spillway
• channel and primary spillway channel) to safely pass the flow from the
appropriate design events. As stated previously, the discharge channels
have been lined with riprap. Thus, the need for additional energy
dissipators, surge ponds, or other devices to reduce erosion 1s not
anticipated; however, the existing channels will be inspected regularly
during periods of flow and if deemed necessary, erosion control
structures will be installed.
•
23-169
