-7-
the early 1920'x. On 10-07-21, Emma Kneeland filed a homestead claim
(Enlarged Homestead Act) for the NEl/4, the NE1/4SW1/q, and the NW1/4SW1/4 of
Section 1, TSN, R91W. The claim was patented on 10-07-23 to "the heirs of
Claire Kneeland". On 10-28-39 the land was purchased from the Kneelands by
Viola K. Beaudoire. From this time on, the land upon which SMF1960 is
located changed ownership several times. Presently, the site area is owned
by Trapper Mining Inc.
Interpretations: Based upon the artifactual remains from the site and
information obtained from the title search, it is the opinion of the
investigator that the site dates no earlier than the 1920's and is asso-
ciated with homestead activities. Based upon [he physical remains, it is
not possible to determine if the site represents a seasonal livestock camp
or a year-round habitational site.
Evaluation: The site offers little potential for historical research,
interpretation or preservation. Beyond what data have been recovered, it
would appear that the site possesses little significance.on either a
• national, state or local level.
Recommendations: In the opinion of the investigator, no further work is
warranted at SMF1960 and the site is not recommended for eligibility to the
National Register of Historic Places.
•
