-6 -
long x 1.5 wide (widest point) and 30cm high. What function or
action is associated with this pile of sandstone is not known.
• Feature 4 - The only standing structure on the site is a one-hole
outhouse located north and northwest of Features 1-3 (Appendix B:
Plate 2). The outhouse is composed of 1" x 6" and 1" x 12" milled
planking secured to 2" x 4"'s with round headed nails. The sloping
roof has partially collapsed and no door is present. The structure
is approximately 1.8m high x 1.25m wide x lm deep.
Along with the above described features, fence posts are present with
the only noticeable fence line being located within the northern portion of
the site (Figure 3.1). No wire was observed within the site boundaries.
Other cultural remains observed consisted of scraps of sheet metal, a five
gallon can (screw cap), and a wood burning cook stove. The stove is small
and the top cooking surface is missing (Appendix B: Plate 3). On the back
of the stove is the following:
• The Kibler Stove Company ~~
Denver, Colorado
1895
Other materials from the site which were previously collected and exa-
mined by the author at the Trapper Mine Office, consisted of a smashed
teapot, pitchfork tines, and a complete bottle. The teapot was made by
"Rome Pfetal Ware" and appears to be made from some form of tin alloy. All
seams on the teapot have been soldered. The bottle is composed of clear
glass (post-1917) and has a long, grooved ring neck, a round cornered base,
curved shoulders, and a narrow rectangular body with sunken panels. The
trademark on the bottom of the bottle is a "0" inside a square. This
trademark was used by the Owens Bottle Company until its merger with the
Illinois Glass Company in 1929 (IMACS 1984:472.3). The bottle's form is
that of a patent or proprietary medicine bottle (IMACS 1984:472.6). A
shallow wrinkle on the base of the bottle and seams which extend to the
bore indicate the use of a fully automated bottle machine (IMACS
1984:472.3).
• Title Search: Based upon records at the Moffat County Clerk and Assessor's
Offices in Craig, the land upon which 5PiF1960 is located was homesteaded in
