I
Response: No hydrologic impacts are expected to the surface water system
as a result of the San Luis Project. Section G.5.1 has been
revised to contain a more complete discussion.
Based on the geochemical data discussed in Exhibit D and
presented in Appendix F, no metal loading is expected in the Rito
Seco due to the mining operations. The proposed sediment control
plan as outlined in Section D.9 will prevent impacts to the
surface water system from sediment generation. Since BMR will not
obtain any of their water supply directly from the Rito Seco,
there will be no injury to vested downstream water rights owners.
A proposed plan for augmentation will address depletions to the
stream system due to dewatering operations during mining and, if
stream depletions are anticipated following closure, they will
be addressed through either continuation of the augmentation plan
or construction of a cut-off wall along the south wall of the
West Pit as discussed in Section E.3.1.
Exhibit G, Section G.5.1 revised 2/15/89.
85. Please specify which species of cyanide will be analyzed; it is
recommended that free and total cyanide plus thiocyanate (a compound
which often skews the free cyanide reading) be analyzed.
Response: Free and total cyanide will be analyzed. Thiocyanate will not be
present in large quantities at the site due to the absence of
sulfur.
Table G.1-2 revised 4/20/89.
' 86. Please indicate the schedu)e for submittal of water quality monitoring
results to the Division.
Response: Water quality monitoring results will be submitted as part of the
annual report. Section G.1 of the permit application has been
revised to include submittal of the monitoring results with the
ann;aal report.
Exhibit G Section G.1 has been revised 4/20/89 to include this information
and a commitment to comply with Stipulation N4 to the permit document,
regarding monthly monitoring and reporting of water quality of wells
downgradient of the leach pad area.
87. Please include a ground water monitoring station down-gradient from the
southern waste rock/tailing disposal facility, and a surface water
monitoring station downstream of the o)d heap area.
Response: A ground water monitoring well, M-4 has been installed below the
south waste rock/tailings disposal area. The well location is
shown on Figure G-1. A surface water monitoring station
downstream of the old heap will be installed if BMR decides to
reclaim the old heap in place. If the old heap material is moved
to the new heap for releaching, no monitoring station will be
