• Reject material and process Cincs will be used in [he reconstruction of an acceptable plant
grow[It medium. These materials will be subjected to physical and chemical soil analysts to
dctcrntining their use for supporting plant growth. Soil analyses will include pH, texture,
conductivity, sodium adsorption ratio, nitrate nitrogen, plan[ available phosphorous and
potassium.
SEDIAfENT CONTROL
The operation has been designed such that there will be no discharge to surface drainages.
Diversion ditches and berms will prevent off-site discharge into the natural drainage system.
Runoff on the property will be directed to the pit floor from where it may be diverted to the
settling ponds for recycling as process water.
REGRADING AND SHAPING
Pit slopes and the pit floor will be backfilled and/or graded to achieve the final contour and
in preparation for topsoil placement. Contour furrows or water bars will be established on the
pit slopes to reduce erosion. Plant reject material and process fines will be used as reclamation
backfill.
TOPSOIL REPLACEMENT
• Topsoil replacement will occur following regrading and scarification of the surface of
backfilled material, primarily in late summer and fall. This procedure limits the time that
topsoil is exposed prior to revegetation and avoids moving topsoil when it is frozen or too wet.
After reject material and fines are in place they will be treated with organic and inorganic
amendments as necessary (based on the soil test results). Following this treatment the
backfilled surface will be ripped to incorporate the amendments. Topsoil will then be spread
on the prepared surface. Topsoil material will provide seed and plant parts and soil microbes
for nutrients.
REVEGETATION SPECIES
Grass and shrub species and seed rates to be used Cor revegetation arc:
Ibs PLS/acre
- Western Wheatgrass 6.0
- Thickspike Wheatgrass 3.0
- Little Bluestem 2.0
- Green Needlegrass 2.0
- Fringed Sagebrush 0.1
n
U
