• EYHIBIT E: RECLA1t1ATION PLAN
INTRODUCTION
The goal oC reclamation at [he Condo -McKay Sand and Gravel Mine is to restore the land to
astable condition suitable for the post-mining land use, which is buffer zone for the Rocky
Flats Plant. Reclamation will occur concurrently with mining. Areas required Cor clay mining
will remain unreclaimed until clay mining has ceased. As soon as gravel excavation oC an area
is complete and no further disturbance will occur, reclamation will begin.
The reclamation plan begins with the formation of a soil matrix and ends with the
establishment of a diverse and self-sustaining plant community that will be structurally and
functional similar to the surrounding area. The post-mining land use is consistent with the goal
of reclamation and with the existing use of the site.
POST-A1INING CONTOUR
The approximate post-mining contour is shown on Exhibit F: Reclamation Plan Map. Mining
will be set back 30 feet the permit boundary and from each of the Church and upper McKay
Ditches. From this setback, a pit slope not to exceed 3H:1 V will be established. The pit floor
• will be approximately 30 feet below existing grade. Sand and gravel excavation will originally
be deeper than 30 Ceet but processing plant reject material and fines from the settling ponds
will be backfilled into the mine to achieve the final grade.
TOPSOIL PRESERVATION
Topsoil on the site is limited and extremely rocky. The Soil Conservation Service estimates that
the upper 18 inches of soil is cobbly, sandy, loam that is 50% to 75°h cobbles. The upper 18
inches of topsoil will be salvagcd during the initial phases of mining and will be stockpiled
where shown on Exhibit C-2: alining Plan Map. As areas become ready for topsoil
replacement, topsoil will be hauled directly Crom the area to be mined to the area to be
rcclainted.
Soil m;ttcrial that is stockpiled will be placed on a stable surface within the permit area and
will be clearly marked. This material will be protected from disturbance associated with the
mining, operation, and from wind and water erosion, compaction and other disturbances that
would reduce its capability [o support vegetation.
Topsoil will be removed before any mining or other surface disturbance takes place. Topsoil
will be salvagcd only from areas required for mining and mine related surface disturbance.
Vegetation will be recovered with the topsoil material.
