IINITED STATES SOIL FIELD OFFICE
DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION 925 S BROADAAY
AGRICULTURE SERVICE CORTEZ~ CO 81321
303-565-8879
Date: 9/26/94
VEGETATIVE DATA
EXHIBIT J
The vegetation on the irrigated areas is comprised of mostly
grass with kentucky bluegrass and smooth brome being the
primary species present and making up approximately 60% of
the vegetation. Forbs make up the remaining 40% with
numerous species present. On the dryland areas, which have
been disturbed by mining activities done in the past, the
vegetative is sparse with western wheatgrass being the most
abundant perennial grass species. The dominate shrubs on the
dryland areas are rubber rabbitbrush and.big sagebrush. A
small amount of pinyon pine and utah juniper are also
present.
The current vegetative production on the irrigated portion
of the site is approximately 2,000 lbs of air dry vegetation
per acre and the vegetative cover is approximately 50%. A
production level of approximately 5,000 lbs per acre is
possible if the right forage species are selected and the
pastures are properly managed.
This area is currently being used for livestock grazing and
once mining operations have been completed will again be
used for this purpose.
~1
