• Past studies on Foidel Creek showed similar results when compared to the
present study. Foidel Creek Station 1 was sampled previously in 1979 and the
results of both years are presented in Table 3. All parameters measured
compared very well between the two years with slightly higher density and
I diversity values in 1980. This was due to greater abundance of oligochaetes
and Palpomyia in 1980. However, chironomids were more abundant and more
^ species were collected in 1979, due perhaps to the sampling of the reservoir
!1 itself that year.
Table 3: Benthic invertebrate density (N = numbers/m2), diversity (D) and
numbers of taxa (S) for Station 1 on Foidel Creek 1979-1980.
1979 1980
July August
i N
D
5 2023
1.49
13 5328
1.74
11

~ The middle Foidel Creek station sampled in 1975 and 1979 was just down-
stream of Station 3 on the unnamed tributary which allows comparison of the
riffle sections of those stations (Table 4). Density values varied greatly
from 586/m2 in July 1979 to 10900/m2 in August 1975. Nonetheless, diversity
values and number of taxa remained relatively consistent over the three years.
Chironomid larvae were important components of the fauna all three years with
amphipods more abundant in 1975, while oligochaetes were •more abundant in
1980.
1

L
-12-
