t 8.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROCEDURES
The quality assurance (QA) program for monitoring the construction
of the leach pads and ponds shall be performed by the Engineer. The
' purpose of this program is to document the quality of the work completed
and the extent to which the work is performed to the intent. of and as

8.1 Borrow Materials

Representative tests will be run on all borrow materials to
' establish the appropriate material characteristics by which the
construction performance will be checked, and to determine that
test data used in the design are representative of the borrow
materials. Fill placement of borrow material may not t~egin until
the testing has been performed.

Should it become necessary to change borrow areas,
representative tests will be run on borrow materials 'n the new
areas to be developed. Test results will be used to determine the
' suitability of new borrow material for use in the earthwork
construction. It will be the Contractor's responsibility to notify
the Engineer of changes in borrow source locations in advance of
' development to allow time for representative testing without unduly
interrupting construction activities. Should the material prove to
be unsuitable, such material shall not be used.

Representative tests shall be conducted for every 10,000 cu
yds of material used as fill, or when a change in material occurs
within the borrow area or stockpile. Representative tests for
granular material shall be run for every 5,000 cu yds of material
taken from borrow pits or stockpiles and used as fill.
