i`
5.4 Leak Detection Sand and Gravel Blanket
The sand and gravel blanket between the liners in the solution
ponds and the leach pad shall be constructed of native soils
' excavated from the borrow area to the south and west of the heap
leach pads. The native soils shall consist of clean sand and gravel
materials with 15 percent or less silt-sized particles, a maximum
particle size of three inches, and having a permeability of 1 x
10-3 cm{sec or higher.
The minus No. 200 sieve material shall be non-plastic and the
gravel particles shall be rounded or subrounded. The sand and
gravel shall be free of rubbisfi and organic{vegetative matter.
5.5 Synthetic Liner Protection Layer
The synthetic liner protection layer shall be constructed of
crushed ore having a maximum particle size of 1/4 inch and a silt
~~ content of 12 percent or less. The crushed ore shall be well graded
throughout the sand fraction, and shall have a permeability of 1 x
10-2 cm/sec or higher.
5.6 Tailings Disposal Starter Dike
' The starter dike for
k di
ili
l f dry tailings disposal in
h
ll b
d t the south
h
li waste
d
roc
sposa
ac
ty e constructe
s
a
o e
nes
t an
dimensions shown in the drawings. Waste rock taken fron the mine
pit(s) which consists of well-graded minus 24-inch material shall
be used to construct the starter dike. Placement of material i n the
starter dike shall be by method specification developed by the
Contractor and approved by the Engineer to produce a stcble fill.
In-place native soils meeting the same specification may tre used as
an alternative to mine waste at the direction of the Engineer.

N-8
