RECLAMATION PLAN ADDENDUM EXHIBIT D
6.3.4 - Final grading will be such that the topography is
appropriate to the reclaimed use of the property, i.e., as
recreation. Any slopes created will be graded 2h to lv more or
less. The floor of the mine will have a gentle slope to the
northeast so drainage is consistent with existing grades on the
site. The Reclamation Plan Map -Exhibit E-2 shows how we think the area
will look when it is reclaimed.
Once mining is complete the area will be shaped, graded and
resoiled using the stockpiled growth medium to placed 3 to 6
inches over the disturbed area. When this is complete a mixture
of grass seed (35#/ac), a fertilizer mix of 18~ Nitrogen and 46~
Potassium (250#/ac), fibermulch (400#/ac) and water (1450 #/ac)
will be used to seed the prepared seedbed.
Seeding will occur in the fall (after October 1st) or the
spring after the last freeze but before May lat. The seed will
be hydromulched per the USFS requirements. The seed mix required
by the landowners is listed below. It was prepared by the Forest
Service for the mine site and Grand County is required to use it.
We also expect to see a natural invasion of fortis and woody
plants from surrounding areas. No trees or shrubs will be
planted on the mine area. Revegetation will be carried out in
such a way, so as to establish a diverse, effective and long-
lasting vegetative cover that is capable of self-regeneration
without continued dependence on irrigation, soil amendments or
fertilizers. The plan is to create a vegetative cover that is at
least equal in extent to the cover of the natural vegetation
before mining.
The landowner will be asked to avoid disturbing off the site
during three years to insure the seed takes. After the second
growing season the site will be inspected and an assessment of
revegetation success will be done to determine if additional
seeding will be necessary. If the analysis shows additional work
is needed it will done that fall.
Weed control will be implemented prior to and during
revegetation activities. This does not mean we will attempt to
kill all weeds, since some provide a natural ground cover and
shade for emerging grass. We will concentrate on controlling the
noxious weeds on the reclaimed area, following normal NRCS
recommendations if a problem occurs.
Seed Mix
Grass Tvpe Lbs/ac PLS
Bromar Mountain Brome 10.0
Annual Ryegrass 10.0
Clover Sheep Fescue 7.0 RECEIlIED
Bluebunch Wheatgrass 5.0
Slender Wheatgrass 2.0 ~~N~S ZQ~
Alsike Clover 1.0
TOTAL PER ACRE . 3 5 • 0 Division of Minerals and Geology
