~_ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
S~
r
•

3.2 Cultural and Historic Resources Information
The proposed Coal Ridge #1 Mine its located in a rural area consisting mostly of steep
terrain along the Colorado River in Garfield County, Colorado. The permit area
encompasses mostly undeveloped land where some previous mining has occurred. No
known cultural or historic resources proposed for or listed in the National Register of
Historic Places exist within the permit area. A review of the files of the State
Archeologist, the State Preservation Officer, and the local BLM office was performed
prior to field surveys.
Nickens and Associates of Montrose County Colorado has performed extensive Class II
cultural resources surveys of the area which were completed in 1980. An intensive
pedestrian survey of areas to be disturbed by exploration and site investigation activities
was performed from June 27 through June 30, 1983 by Gibbs & Hill, Inc. on the behalf
of the applicant. On September 12 through September 14, 1983, an additional
pedestrian survey was completed by Nickens and Associates. A summary of the
results from these surveys are presented in Exhibit 3.2-1. Completion reports for these
surveys are on file with the Bureau of Land Management and the Office of the State
Archeologist.
NCIG -Coal Rldge No. 1
3-9
5/00
