• Ms. Sandra Emrich
Page Two
May 1, 1984
Pond Design
Waste water from the truck wash will enter a 0.197 acre-feet
sedimentation pond (see Exhibit "7-16") prior to being released.
This pond will be used to settle out the majority of the solids and
trap the oil and grease prior to discharge. The discharge from the
pond will overflow into the ditch which flows into the Northwest Im-
poundment (003).
The Northwest Impoundment has an as-built capacity of 7.07 acre-feet
of which 3.39 acre-feet is necessary to hold the 10-year, 24-hour
storm and 2.13 acre-feet is necessary for 3 years sediment storage.
Therefore, 5.52 acre-feet (3.39 + 2.13) is necessary to meet Colorado
Regulations. The pond has excess storage capacity of 1.55 acre-feet
(7.07 - 5.52). The truck wash will use 100,000 gallons per day (0.31
acre-feet/day). The Impoundment pond thus has the capacity to treat
this water with 1.24 acre-feet (1.55 - 0.31) of excess capacity.
The combination of the truck wash pond, grease skimmer and the Northwest
Impoundment should be sufficient to keep the effluent limitations
• from being exceeded. If, for some reason, the limitations are exceeded
the truck wash will be shut down, the State notified and the operation
will not be started again until the problem has been corrected.
Reclamation of this pond will be conducted at the same time as the
other office/shop facilities are reclaimed. Due to its shallow depth
and small size, reclamation costs can be considered as included in
the existing bond for the facilities area. Reclamation costs for
removal of the concrete pad were included in Minor Revision No. 3.
Should you have any questions regarding the above please contact me.
Sincerely,
Tom Wainwright
Colorado Project Manager
TJW:kt
Enclosures
cc: Curt Belden
Mike Gobla
• Craig Jennings
Floyd Johnson - OSM
Jim Lunan
Norm Nielsen
Leonard Shearer
