1.2.5 Augmented Seeding and/or Cultural Practices
In addition to 1995 replaced topsoil revegetation practices, Trapper also conducts several aug-
mented seedings and/or cultural practices. These practices are addressed below.
Mature Shrub Transplant Clumps
One mature shrub clump was constructed in Hawken Pd during 1995. Two mature shrub
clumps are proposed in 1998.
Drainage Reconstruction
The acreage, location and methods are fully described in Section 3.0 of this annual report.
Diversion Ditch Reclamation
During 1995, Trapper removed approximately 5.8 acres of diversion ditches. Ditches were
removed from our runoff control system since vegetation success and the remaining diversion
system is adequately handling runoff events. After ditches are back-filled, they are seeded to
the appropriate range site mix based on elevation. The areas recaimed are documented on
our annual fall aerial photos.
Livestock Tank Construction
Trapper constructed one livestock tank in East Pyeatt drainage during the 1995 field season.
See Section 6.
• Livestock Tank Reclamation
Trapper reclaimed four livestock tanks in 1995. All reclaimed sites were seeded to the
approved 1995 range site seed mix.
Developmental Drill Sties
During 1995, Trapper broadcast-seeded approximately one acre of developmental drill sites
using the approved seed mix. The specifics and locations are presented in L. Johns's 1995
Developmental Drilling summary.
Topsoil Piles
See Section 5. Topsoil stockpiles were sloped and seeded to the approved 1995 perennial
topsoil pile mix. Approximately 19.18 acres were treated.
Sediment Dams
During 1995, sediment pond Oak #1 was constructed. East Pyeatt #1, Industrial Waste Pond
and Elk #1 were cleaned. All dams were broadcast-seeded with the approved dam seed mix.
Historical State Acricultural Holdings
As mining operations progress across our coal leases, Trapper affects former state agricultural
leases. Since 1976, Trapper has permitted the agricultural lessee to continue farming practices
but with the stipulation that Trapper withdraws acres from crop production when mining
atlvance dictates. Areas outside mining prestrip operations are in historical crop rest-rotation
(small grain) or converted to perennial haycrop. Cropland areas mined and reclaimed are
seeded to the approved perennial haycrop mix. Trapper continues to manage these areas until
they revert to historical use after bond release.
