Section 816.115 Revegetation: brazing.
u
When the approved postmining land use is range or pastureland, the reclaimed
land shall be used for livestock grazing at a grazing capacity approved by
the regulatory authority approximately equal to that of similar non-mined
lands, for at least the last two full years of liability required under
Section 816.116 (b).
As indicated by current Colorado Ptined Land Reclamation Division Rues
and Regulations (November 20, 1986), operators are not required to
graze range or pastureland prior to band release. However, the company
may graze some of the reclaimed parcels prior to bond release to
promote the utilization of the area.
If the area is grazed, guidelines suggested by the SCS (1976) will be
used to formulate the proposed grazing management program. The exact
stocking rates to be implemented for the entire mine are impossible to
predict at this time. The number of livestock and length of use will
• be based upon current growing conditions. Stocking rates will be
calculated using the accepted assumption that a steer consumes 640
pounds of forage a month or a mature cow of approximately 1,000 pounds
and a calf as old as 6 months equals one animal unit. For a mature ewe
or ram, the animal-unit equivalent of 0.20 will be used. Wildlife
allowances shall be 0.20 animal units for a mature mule deer and 0.55
animal units for each mature elk. Flexibility in the size and
comparison of the livestock operation will allow for optimum usage of
vegetation during years of sub-optimal and above average forage
production.
AS of 1987, Colorado Yampa Coal Company will graze about 2350 acres
annually at Mine 2. The area includes reclamation, cropland,
pastureland, and native vegetation. Based upon the available forage
calculations, CYCC.Yrill be able to graze about 4,000 steers in the

816-154 Revised 06/08/87
