Revised 1/11/80
Section 816.114 Continued
limitations of annual grains, surface mulch, and surface man-
ipulation treatments crith respect to plant establishment, soil
erosion and runoff from these treatments. Those plots have
been installed and instrumentation will soon be completed so
that runoff and plant yield data a-i11 be available for the
1980 season. EFC is anxiously awaiting the results of these
data to determine the actual impact of various mulching and
surface manipulation treatments on the vegetal and hydrologic
parameters so important to reclamation. If data obtained from
these plots demonstrates the need to modify the existing
mulching and erosion control measures utilized by EFC, then
the mulching plan will be a:odified in accordance caith MLRD and
• OSM approval.
The application of cereal grain mulch will be employed on
all areas retopsoiled in accordance with the topsoilinc ree.p-
plication schedule detailed in section 780.18(b). Topsoiled
areas planted to cereal grains will be planted according to
the: revegetation timetable presented in section 816.113.
To date several species of annual grains have been
planted on reclaimed sites on the Energy Fuels Mine No. 1 in
experimental plantings. In addition to these on-site field
trials, consultations with grain crop specialists at Colorado
State Univeristy have taken place to identify annua]. grains
that are capable of producing rapid growth and which can
cause the high levels of plant cover reci~ired to control
. erosion and increase soil organic matter levels.
