Methods of Minine

LaFarge will use the same mining techniques as [hey have used at other mining operations. The
operation will be open pit dry mining. Mitigation of groundwater impacts are discussed in
Exhibit G.
Dozers, scrapers, haul trucks and/or rubber tired front end loaders will be used to first remove the
topsoil and overburden. They will strip enough land to keep ahead of the mining progress. T~
topsoil will he ctncoiled so not to imnede flood waters The same equipment will be used to
mine the sand and gravel. Field conveyors will transport the material from the mining face to the
processing area. When mining in Cell 4, a bridge over the River will cazry the conveyor.
Material will be crushed, screened (sorted) and washed. A portion of the aggregate will be
processed into asphalt or concrete. The processing facilities are portable and/or stationery and
will be moved when Lafarge begins to mine Cell 5. An asphalt and concrete batch plant will be
located on-site.
Some of the processed material will be washed. The settling basin will be located in the
southeast portion of the property neaz the wash plant.
Deserintion of Equipment on Site
The equipment used at this operation is typical of what is used at sand and gravel mining
operations. The equipment will be placed on the south side of the property and includes but is
not limited to the following:
Processing Equipment
-Crushers, screens, field conveyors, wash plant, asphalt batch plant, concrete batch and
casting plant, and settling basin.
Earth Moving Egu~ment
-Tractor trailers, dozers, front end loaders, scrapers.
Miscellaneous
-Dewatering pumps, trailer/office, maintenance shop and equipment, sanitary facilities,
water trucks, truck scale, full tank, outdoor storage.
D-3
