The processing azea contains the crushing and screening for the raw material. Some of the
material will be washed for use in the on-site concrete plant. An on-site asphalt plant will also
use some of the washed material. The processing azea also includes a concrete casting facility
where concrete forms are made for construction projects.
The settling basin may be sectioned by berms. These berms will allow water accumulate in the
each section before spilling over into the next section. This procedure allows a large amount of
sediment to settle out of the water, so that the last section will have clean water. The clean water
can be reused for processing.
Mining will proceed to Cell 2 and progress as shown on Exhibit C.
Before the remaining cells are mined a dewatering trench will be constructed azound portions of
their perimeters. A sump hole will be created at the lowest point of the dewatering trenches.
The sump holes and dewatering trenches will allow sediment to settle before the water is pumped
to the South Platte River using a groundwater discharge pump. Water may also be pumped into
adjoining cells.
Lastly, Cell 5 will be mined. As the azea in Cell 5 is reduced in size, the processing equipment
will be moved closer to the south border of the property and eventually moved off-site. During
the life of the operation, the processing equipment will be a combination of portable and
stationary pieces.
Table D-1 outlines the maximum azea of disturbance at any one time in the life-of--mine. Table
D-1 is based on disturbance in Cell 2. See Exhibit L for more detail.
Sediment Basin 4 acres
Stripped ahead of Mining 10 acres
Active mining area 10 acres
Topsoil and overburden stockpiles 3 acres
Dewatering trench 1 acres
Roads 2 acres
Processing plant 27 acres
Lakeshore final graded with topsoil 2 acres
Lakeshore seeded 2 acres
Total Disturbed Area 61 acres
Lafazge will maintain a 200 feet setback from the South Platte River, a 25 feet setback from the
property boundary, and 25 feet setback from Weld County Road 6 and 8. These setbacks aze
labeled on Exhibit C.
Adjacent to the South Platte River, the operator may mine and backfill within 100 feet between
October 1~' and May ls'. During these low runoff months, there is little risk of high river flows
and bank breaching.
D-2
