• Section 780.11(b) Continued.
Any waste oil or lubricants generated in conjunction with mining
operations will be collected and stored in closed containers. A
limited number of partially full containers will be stored for
ongoing use in the maintenance shop facility. Full waste containers
will be stored in the shop or a closed area adjacent to the fuel
storage tanks and former waste oil catch basin. The full containers
will be periodically collected and removed from the site by a
contractor for off-site disposal or recycling.
All salvageable mining equipment is sold to local scrap dealers. A
designated area near the shop facility is utilized to store items
such as broken bolts, worn-out engine parts, etc. which might be
recyclable. Two to three times per year, a scrap dealer hauls the
scrap away from the area. No mining machinery is merely abandoned
in place by Kerr Coal.
Wastewater from toilets, sinks, and showers is disposed of by means
• of both septic tanks and underground leach fields. In addition, two
enclosed portable, self-contained toilets are located around the
mining and tipple operation. These portable facilities are cleaned
weekly by a contract service. The waste from these portable toilets
is disposed of by the contract service.
Mine Facilities. As described in Section 780.12, Kerr Coal
maintains a complete shop, office, and warehouse facility and
explosives bunker at the Marr Mine.
